Our Founder and Director
Natasha Allen - Independent Midwife
Our Director has almost 14 years of Midwifery experience, working in the NHS and independently.
Natasha has based most of her practice in community midwifery, caseloading care, reducing health inequalities and homebirth services. She is a mother and has personal experience of perinatal mental illness, multiple hidden disabilities including fibromyalgia, Autism and ADHD, and proudly brings these lived experiences into her work.
Her own personal and professional experiences have become the inspiration for The Birthwise Collective. Wanting to provide all women and birthing people with a safe space to receive individualised support through their perinatal journey.

The perinatal journey can be a beautiful time, but can also often carry many complexities and challenges.
There can be many decisions to make at all stages, particularly where medical jargon and uncertainty can leave you unsure of where to turn.
The Birthwise Collective offers a safe and confidential space to speak to an Independent Midwife with the expertise to help you to work through your thoughts, explore the evidence available and support you to reach an informed decision that feels right for you.

Sometimes we can feel like we need someone to lean on who can help us feel seen and heard.
At The Birthwise Collective we specialise in providing advocacy for women and birthing people, that come from protected characteristic groups, that are more likely to have poorer outcomes when using UK Maternity Services. This includes people from Black and Brown backgrounds, which national data has highlighted for many years as having disproportionately poorer outcomes than their White counterparts. And those from other minoritisied communities, with examples including the LGBTQAI+ community, those living with disabilities and those with neurodivergent conditions.
We do this through bespoke support, meaningful allyship and ensuring our approach is personalised and equitable.

Whether you have recently given birth, are about to have your next baby or gave birth a few years ago, a Birth Debrief is something that can be hugely beneficial.
Birth Debriefs are not a form of counselling or psychological intervention, however they can support you to process what took place, make sense of your thoughts and feelings and explore any additional support that you may need in processing your next steps.
A Birth Debrief with The Birthwise Collective involves having a consultation with our Independent Midwife to explore what took place on your journey, any areas of concern or challenge that you wish to explore and to discuss any additional support recommendations that may be appropriate for you following the meeting.

An up and coming birth is a time in life that can bring mixed emotions and thoughts of how this experience will go. Although it is not always possible to predict what may take place on your birth journey, it can be beneficial to spend some time understanding your hopes and wishes and review the evidence based information available so that you can make true informed choices on your care.
The Birthwise Collective can support you to review these choices with an Independent Midwife with extensive experience in care planning for vaginal births, caesarean sections, and complex care planning.

There are times that we may advise that your needs cannot always be met by the scope of our services.
On those occasions we will provide you with recommendations and signposting to other services that may be more appropriate for your needs.
